Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Educational Psychology

I am an educational psychology researcher and a musician

Deputy Director of the Applied Music Research Centre

My research focuses on how to promote optimal functioning in education, especially in music education. I examine how psychological characteristics of students influence their performance, persistence and well-being using Big Data Analysis and survey study methods.

Why educational psychology?

Education is considered an almost universal core value. Yet, not all university students  benefit from education the same way. In my research, I aim to understand the personal and contextual characteristics that make students thrive.

Why psychometrics?

"Simple equally weighted formulas based on existing statistics or on common sense are often very good predictors of significant outcomes." Daniel Kahneman, Thinking Fast and Slow

In order to understand the links between education and people, we first  need to find those formulas.

Why music?

Music is my first passion; I use it as a research study subject and for my own enjoyment.
